The purpose of this guide is to provide researchers with an overview of archival and manuscript collections pertaining to Eastern and East Central European Studies in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
While information about GTA holdings is scattered among various open-access internet resources, this guide assembles that information in one place providing researchers a single reference point and giving them a general picture of GTA archival and manuscript holdings relating to Eastern and East Central European Studies.
A list of archival and manuscript repositories in Ontario can be found on the Archeion site. Archives of Ontario is the main such repository in GTA and the Province of Ontario. You can search its holdings on the Archives of Ontario web site.
The Archives Association of Ontario (AAO) created a portal for searching all of Ontario’s archives, called ARCHEION. Besides the ability to search for collection records, both sites regularly host virtual exhibitions. These two web-sites were the primary source for compiling this guide. The records in this guide are organized by country with the exception of some collections which were categorized as “general” since they hold information related to more than two or three countries of the region.
